Happy New to you from the Golden State – once again, California offers up an interesting array of new and amended laws for the new calendar year. Here are some notable changes for 2017 effective on January 1, 2017, starting with powdered alcohol:
SB 819 Powdered Alcohol Ban
Never heard of it? Neither had we but in a proactive measure, this freeze-dried alcohol designed to be mixed with water, also known as “palcohol” which is increasing in popularity across the nation will not be sold in California thanks to SB 819 Powdered Alcohol ban. Violators risk having their license revoked.
AB 1322 – Alcoholic Beverages at Beauty Salons and Barber Shops
If you like your alcohol the old fashioned way, as a liquid, AB 1322 allows you to enjoy a minimal amount of booze offered to you by the owners of your beauty salon or barber shop – or both. You must be 21 years of age or older and the amount of alcohol is limited to 12 oz of beer or 6 oz of wine.
SB 814– Cracking Down on Water-Guzzling Households During a Drought
As per California’s most important liquid, water, the end is near for that neighbor who ignores mandatory restrictions on excessive water restrictions. SB 814 requires all urban retail water suppliers to have tools implemented to track and curb water guzzlers.
