Federal Rules of Civil Procedure 5.2 – Redacting Personal Identifiers

Northern District of Texas has posted a warning to attorneys regarding redaction of personal identifiers.

“WARNING TO ATTORNEYS: Documents filed with the court are public records. Social-security numbers, taxpayer-identification numbers, names of persons known to be minors, birth dates, financial-account numbers, and, in criminal cases, home addresses should generally not be included in such documents unless properly redacted. See Fed. R. Civ. P. 5.2, Fed. R. Crim. P. 49.1, and Miscellaneous Order No. 61 for specifics. Contact the clerk’s office if you need assistance. ”
