Orange County Court Offers a New Small Claims Resolution Pilot Project

Orange County, California Superior Court recently began an online small claims resolution pilot program designed to save time and make conflict resolution that much more accessible. The Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) system was launched June 30th and is believed to be the first of its kind in the state.

Through the online system, parties can participate in dispute resolution without having to travel or lose valuable work time. Evidence can be uploaded securely, settlement agreements can be e-filed with the Court, and neutral facilitators are available to assist in reaching a resolution. The system is funded from a grant from the Legal Services Corporation. Facilitators are experienced and qualified mediators from Waymakers, which offers community and restorative justice services, as well as helping children, victims, and families.

Once a small claims case has been filed, either party can initiate the ODR process.

The Orange County Small Claims Advisory Program can be contacted at (714) 571-5277, or (800) 963-7717.

More information can be found in the court’s news release.
